“With a broken heart”: Chiranjeevi Sarja, whom Prithviraj, Kriti Kharbanda and other stars remember

The promising Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja died of a heart attack in Bengaluru on Sunday. He was 39 years old. The actor collapsed when he phoned his father at around 1:10 p.m. He was immediately taken to the Apollo Hospital in Jayanagar.

The popular Kannada film actor Chiranjeevi Sarja died here after a cardiac arrest in a private hospital, an official said on Sunday. He was 39 years old.

“Sarja was brought to our hospital (Apollo) in an unresponsive state. Attempts to resuscitate him failed and were pronounced dead by the doctors,” the official said to IANS.

In a later statement, the hospital said that Zarya was transferred to an emergency room for treatment after being taken to the hospital around 2:20 p.m. in an unresponsive state.

“The investigation found that Zarya stopped responding with missing carotid pulse, cold peripheries, and bilaterally dilated pupils. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started using the latest cardiac support protocol,” said Yatheesh Govindaiah, division manager at Apollo Hospitals Jayanagar, in the statement.

The doctors continued the resuscitation to revive Zarya until 3.48 p.m.

“During the course, intravenous medication, inotropics, and advanced airways were used, the pulse was reached three times, and was later asystolic. He was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m.,” the statement added.

Sarja started his career at “Vayupatra” in 2009 and starred in 22 sandalwood films, including “Shivarjuna”, which was released on March 25 weeks before the Covid-19 blockade was enforced and since then the theaters have been closed.

Zarya married Kannada actress Meghana Raj in 2018. She is the daughter of Pramila Joshai and Sundar Raj.

Zarya is also the nephew of the famous multilingual South Indian actor Arjun Zarya.

Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa mourned Sarja and expressed condolences to his surviving family.

President of the Unity of the State Congress D.K. Shivakumar, former Prime Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and numerous sandalwood artists, directors and producers expressed shock and sadness at the premature death of Zarya.
