The Kargil War took place from May 3 to July 26, 1999 after Pakistani troops were discovered on the Kargil ridges. Pakistan itself had started planning the attack in 1998. It is also believed that the proposal for such an attack was made by former Pakistani army chiefs to Pakistani leaders, but the proposal was then postponed for fear of a widespread war. Even Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he was unaware of the attack until he received a call from his Indian counterpart Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The Indian army tweeted a post on Saturday (July 25) telling the country what had happened the day before Operation Vijay was finally successful. On June 25, 1999, “The Indian Army launched a daring attack on Zulu Top in the Muskoh Valley. Our bravery’s bravery and unwavering determination led to the successful conquest of the target”: The army, published on Twitter.
July 26 is dedicated to the Indian soldiers who made the greatest sacrifice to preserve and protect the integrity of the nation. The soldiers fought legendary battles in the Dras, Kaksar, Batalik and Turtuk sectors at altitudes above 12,000 feet.
The war resulted in the loss of several lives on both sides, but India won this unofficial war by regaining control of all of the previously held territory and restoring the status quo.
In particular, the violent armed conflict between Indian and Pakistani troops in Kargil and elsewhere along the control line (LoC) took place just a few months after Prime Minister Vajpayee and his then Pakistani counterparts signed the Lahore Declaration in February 1999, and the tensions have escalated since May In 1998 regarding the Kashmiri question, but the question flared up after the Kargil War.
The three phases of the Kargil War included Pakistan’s infiltration with the aim of occupying strategic locations to take control of National Highway One. In the second phase, the Indian armed forces identified and responded to the infiltration by Pakistani invaders, while in the third phase large-scale fighting took place between the Indian and Pakistani armed forces.
The Indian Army, in close coordination with the Indian Air Force, launched its last attacks last week in July to remove all Pakistani forces from the area. The fighting ended on July 26, which has since been celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
