Origin – The unmarried form of Sati, daughter of Daksha Prajapati is worshipped as Goddess Brahmacharini.

Navratri Day of Worship – Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day of Navratri.

Ruling Planet – She rules the Lord Mangal (Planet Mars), the provider of all fortunes.

Idol – She holds rosary (Jap Mala or Rudraksha beads) in her right hand and kamandalu or “Kumbha” or water pot in left hand and walks on the bare feet.

Details – Brahma (means “Tapa”) – who observes penance (tapa) and good conduct. Goddess Brahmacharini (Devi Yogni and Devi Tapsvini) observed severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. She followed strict fasting regimen while staying at open place in harsh summers, freezing winters and stormy rains, sleeping on the floor and spent 1000 years on the diet of flowers and fruits, another 100 years on the diet on leafy vegetables. Further for 3000 years she was on diet of Bilva leaves (and thus known as Aparna) and Later continued her penance without any food and water. Therfore, she was called Brahmacharini.

She represents love and loyalty. Bhramcharini is the goddess of knowledge and wisdom and her nature is to accomplish

Sachchidanandamaya Brahmaswarupa – the ExistenceKnowledgeBliss absolute.

She is blissful and provides happiness, peace, prosperity and grace upon all her devotees. She is the way to emancipation – Moksha.
