The Congress questioned Veer Savarkar’s contribution to Karnataka.

Bengaluru: Congress and JD (S) in Karnataka opposed naming an overpass in the city after the freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologist Veer Savarkar, and described it as an insult to the state’s freedom fighters.
The inauguration of the 400-meter flyover, which according to sources was built at a price of 34 rupees, was scheduled for today, but was postponed for fear of violations of social distance. It should be inaugurated today by Prime Minister BS Yediyurappa, which happens to be Veer Savarkar’s birthday.

Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Siddaramaiah described the move to name the transfer to Veer Savarkar as an insult to freedom fighters from Karnataka’s soil and urged Mr. Yediyurappa to drop them and instead name a freedom fighter from the state.

In a tweet, he said: “The hasty decision to name the transfer from Yelahanka to Savarkar is proof that its administration is not run by an elected government, but by those behind the screen. Prime Minister, seek cooperation from Opposition to such anti-personal decisions? ”

Another former prime minister and JD (S) chairman HD Kumaraswamy said the decision was an insult to those who were fighting for the welfare of the state and it was wrong for the government to do so.

“There are several prominent figures who fought for the development and wellbeing of the state both before and after independence. The transfer could have been named after them. Have other states named things after the freedom fighters of the state? I call on the state government in Names of people to back the decision, “he tweeted.

According to sources, the decision to name the Yelahanka flyover to Veer Savarkar was made at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike City Council meeting on February 29.

Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath, who is also the Chief Secretary’s political secretary, defended the move and said there was nothing wrong in naming the transfer after a freedom fighter who was detained and fined for Kala Pani (formerly Andaman prison) of the country.

He said legally, according to the rules, that the BBMP Council had approved it and all the formalities had been completed, and only then that the appointment was planned.

Mr Vishwanath described the attempt to lead a controversy over the Savarkar transfer name as an insult to freedom fighters and added that several projects and bridges in his constituency were named after major figures from the state and county, and it was Step.

Congress said the bridge was named after Veer Savarkar was defeated despite resistance and questioned Savarkar’s contribution to Karnataka and Bengaluru.

Congress and other opposition parties had previously opposed the attempt to posthumously award Veer Savarkar Bharat Ratna.
