Juan Mata converted a penalty just before half-time before Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood scored late to beat the underdogs on Kenilworth Road.
In this win, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will face either Preston North End or Brighton in the fourth round of the competition.
Mata’s goal came in the 44th minute after Luton Town coughed a ball in the back. Left-back Brandon Williams was defeated by an awkward challenge from George Moncur and the former Chelsea and Valencia man struck calmly.

Rashford and Greenwood put the finishing touches on the win with two cool results in the final minutes.
“Well, getting through is the big deal. There are some positive aspects, the goalkeeper [Dean Henderson] does his job, we scored some nice goals towards the end, otherwise it was good practice,” said Solskjaer after the previous game, praising Hendersons critical rescue.
“That’s probably the job our zookeepers have to do sometimes. They have to save when they need to, and David [de Gea] did that for years and Dean did that today,” he said.
Henderson tweeted afterwards: “I’ve dreamed of it all my life !! Incredible feeling of making my debut for the club I love !! Conceded goal and a win to top it off !!!”
Solskjaer started the match with Bruno Fernandes, Rashford and Greenwood on the bench before taking on all three in the second half.
As he rested his regulars, he said, “We just have to take it day after day and game after game. I didn’t want to give [Fernandes, Rashford and Greenwood] because tomorrow is going to be a tough day.”
