Jogi was selected by Sonia Gandhi to lead Chhattisgarh, which was worked out of Madhya Pradesh during the NDA-led government in 2000.

Ajit Jogi was instinctively anti-Brahmin, but chose Arjun Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and P.V. Narasimha Rao as his role model, all masters of Machiavellian politics and the famous palace intrigue of the congress. Jogi was not a palace maneuver, but tried very hard to play in the congress camps. He tried to play in the Congress Big Boy League.
